Echo Night is a 1998 adventure game developed by FromSoftware for the PlayStation. It is the first game in the Echo Night series, following up with the Japan-exclusive Echo Night 2: The Lord of Nightmares in 1999, and Echo Night: Beyond in 2004.

The Story Behind Echo Night

The children help Richard reach William so he can put a stop to his evil. As Richard reads his father's diary, it is revealed the events on the train occurred 38 years ago and Henry has cryptically decided to revisit the Orpheus to confront the evil of the red stone. A spin-off for the PlayStation Portable was included with Adventure Player, an adventure game creation tool, which was released in Japan in June 2005.

The game has four endings depending on the player's decisions and whether they were able to submit all of the astral pieces: The red stone has the power to change a person's destiny to their will and accumulate wealth and power, but it requires human sacrifices. A mysterious voice tells Richard that the ghosts are afraid of light.

How Echo Night Plays

The game has four endings depending on the player's decisions and whether they were able to submit all of the astral pieces: He gives Crea half of the blue stone for protection, and introduces himself as Henry Osmond. William immediately shoots the young man and leaves his presumably dead body with Crea as he goes to talk with the train conductor.

A cutscene in 1913 depicts the passenger liner Orpheus navigating stormy waters. Upon meeting William, Richard discovers him weary and regretful of his actions after learning Crea was killed for her half of the blue stone. The game shifts back to Richard at Henry's house.

Why Players Still Load It Up

Henry sacrifices his soul to merge with the red stone, but Richard is able to destroy the red stone by combining it with the blue stone. Richard meets the souls of William's son Arthur and daughter Hilda, who were murdered by William for their desire to stop his murderous spree. A mysterious voice tells Richard that the ghosts are afraid of light.

As Richard reads his father's diary, it is revealed the events on the train occurred 38 years ago and Henry has cryptically decided to revisit the Orpheus to confront the evil of the red stone. The story follows Richard Osmond as he searches for his missing father, and investigates his connection to two magical stones aboard the ghost ship Orpheus, which mysteriously disappeared at sea. He encourages Richard to combine the red and blue stones to stop Henry, and sends him back in time before Crea was murdered to retrieve the other half of the blue stone.
