How to Play
Donkey Kong Country 2 HD Edition runs natively on Windows, so it plays through the free RetroPlayers.Club Mini App on your desktop. Click Play on this page and the Mini App downloads the rebuild (about 9 MB with the game data), sets it up and starts it for you.
On the keyboard, the arrow keys move, Z jumps, A runs, rolls and throws, X teams up, S selects a Kong, Q and W are the shoulder buttons, Enter is Start and Backspace is Select. A USB controller plays too: the d-pad or left stick moves and the four face buttons are the SNES diamond. About Donkey Kong Country 2 HD Edition
This is Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest translated, instruction by instruction, from the original SNES program into native PC code by the DKC2Recomp project. The levels, the music, the physics and Diddy and Dixie’s moves are the 1995 game’s own; what the rebuild adds is the presentation: a 16:10 or 16:9 widescreen view with the level edges handled properly, nearest, bilinear or reconstruction scaling, a CRT television look with scanlines, phosphor mask, glow and curvature, and a dark pause overlay for the settings.
What is new
Two players can play the game’s own 2 Player Team mode at the same time: one controller drives each Kong, either Kong can pick up and throw the other, and both can climb ropes and ride Rambi independently. The optional Characters menu lets Donkey Kong or Kiddy Kong stand in for either Kong, and the Assist Tools add rewind, fast-forward and five save-state slots. Candy’s in-game saves persist between launches.
