How to Play
Starfox Enhanced runs natively on Windows, so it plays through the free RetroPlayers.Club Mini App on your desktop. Click Play on this page and the Mini App downloads the rebuild (about 83 MB with the game data), sets it up and starts it for you. The first start takes a few seconds longer while the game prepares its assets.
The game opens on its pre-game menu: choose Original or Star Fox EX, set your options and pick Start Game. On the keyboard, the arrow keys steer, Z and X fire, A brakes, S boosts, Q and W roll, Enter is Start and Backspace is Select. A USB controller plays too: the d-pad or left stick steers and the four face buttons are the SNES diamond. Premium members can set their own keys and controller buttons in the Visual Controller Mapper on this page.
About Starfox Enhanced
Starfox Enhanced is a native PC port of UltraStarFox, the restored Star Fox source, with the game’s own 65C816 program kept at its fixed-point heart and the presentation rebuilt around it. Pick Original for the 1993 routes and frontend, or Star Fox EX for its campaigns, options and mechanics. Game pace is independent of render rate: 20 to 480 frames per second with the original pace preserved, including the source-style slowdown if you want it, and 4:3, 16:10, 16:9, 21:9 or 32:9 display.
What is new
The 2D options cover artwork filtering, bloom and world effects; the 3D options cover anti-aliasing, 1 to 4× render upscaling, smoothing, enhanced lighting, an HDR-style effect, model effects and, on a card that supports it, ray-traced shadows. English, English (Europe), Japanese, German, French and Spanish are all in, menus and dialogue included, the HUD layout can be dragged into place, and rumble, crosshair colours and separate music and effects volumes are yours to set. Hold L and R on the pre-game menu to reset the settings.
