How to Play The Legend of Zelda 3D Edition
How to Play
The Legend of Zelda 3D Edition runs natively on Windows, so it plays through the free RetroPlayers.Club Mini App on your desktop. Click Play on this page and the Mini App downloads it (about 33 MB), sets it up and starts it for you; about 68 MB stays on your PC so it opens straight away next time. Nothing else is needed - everything it runs on is in the download.
On the keyboard the arrow keys walk and turn, X swings your sword, Z uses the item you have selected, S opens doors and talks, A and Q move through your items, W shows the map, Enter pauses and Backspace opens the menu. The mouse looks around if you want it to. A USB controller plays too, and Premium members can set their own keys and controller buttons in the Visual Controller Mapper on this page.
About The Legend of Zelda 3D Edition
This is the land of Hyrule as the 1986 original drew it, screen for screen, rebuilt so you can stand in it. The overworld map is the same map, the nine labyrinths are the same labyrinths, and the secrets are where you remember them: burn the bush, bomb the wall, pay the old man, take the heart. What changes is the point of view. Octoroks come at you down a slope, Lynels guard a path you have to climb, and a room full of Darknuts is something you walk into rather than something you watch.
What is in it
The whole first quest: the wooden, white and magical swords, the boomerang, the bow, bombs, the blue and red candles, the raft, the ladder, the power bracelet, the recorder, potions, rings and the letter, plus the triforce pieces waiting at the end of each labyrinth. Rupees go up to 999, the overworld remembers the walls you have bombed and the bushes you have burned, and the pause screen holds your items the way the subscreen used to. The map is textured, so the automap reads like the paper map that came in the box.
